The Right Style
The first steps to finding the right style are to make some observations.
First is to notice the jewelry she already wears.
Notice the color of the metal, and any preferences for gem color, if you are considering a setting with gemstones.
Also take into consideration what sort of lifestyle she has. If she is very active, or if she is not used to wearing rings, a more solid setting, such as a cathedral or contour setting might be preferable.
You also want to notice her finger and hand size and proportions to determine what size ring will be most becoming. Small fingers can handle light delicate designs, while sturdier fingers are able to balance the weight of a heftier ring. Also, elongated diamond shapes, such as the oval and the marquise shape, can help elongate short or small fingers.
You also want to understand what her style tastes are. By looking and speaking with her about her tastes in clothing and jewelry, you can understand better what styles of jewelry she might like. For instance, does she love the perfect, understated, little black dress. If so she may also like more classic styles of jewelry, such as diamond studs, solitaire rings and single strands of pearls. If her tastes run more to contemporary styles, with bold colors and lines, she may like gemstone jewelry, contour or cathedral settings, bezel settings, or other bold contemporary styles.
